Zoom Whitening for My White Spots Went Wrong
Posted by writeradmin
Since my adult teeth came in, there were white spots on the bottom half of my teeth. I like how they look in pictures because they make my teeth look really white. But, the rest of the time I am embarrassed by my smile. I went to my dentist and she had just invested in the Zoom whitening set up and suggested that because it is faster than the regular teeth whitening. I agreed, but after we finished the procedure the two colors of teeth were just as obvious, if not a little more. It was one of her first times using it on a patient and she did give me a discount because of that. I’m wondering if she did something wrong. I wouldn’t be angry, but just wanted to know if going to a different zoom dentist would make a difference.

Dear Lizzy,

I am so glad you wrote. I can tell that your dentist cares about you and is trying her best. I also can tell that you respect her. Both of those things are great. The problem isn’t that your dentist did something wrong with the zoom whitening procedure. That functioned just as it was designed to. The issue is more that she didn’t understand the theory behind how teeth whitening works.
No matter what teeth whitening procedure you use or its strength, it will whiten your teeth evenly. That means the white sections of your teeth would get whiter along with the remainder of your teeth. That isn’t what you’re trying to accomplish.
You have a couple of options. The only downside to you is that both of these require an expert cosmetic dentist. As well meaning as your dentist is, I don’t think she is qualified to do either of these procedures for you. Both are advanced procedures. Teeth whitening is the simplest and she doesn’t understand that. It won’t mean that you have to switch dentists. There are lots of patients who go to see a cosmetic dentist for their cosmetic procedure, but stay with the family dentist for their general dental work.
The two things which I would recommend are either dental bonding to even out the color of your teeth or porcelain veneers. The veneers are more expensive but will last longer and can change anything about your smile including the shape, size, and color. It’s what Hollywood celebrities go to for their smile makeovers.
