Zoom Whitening and White Spots
Posted by writeradmin
I have a problem with my teeth. I’ve had white spots on them since I was a child and my adult teeth came in. They have always bothered me. I asked my dentist about them. He said my teeth where perfectly healthy and there is no reason to mess with what doesn’t have a problem. I tried to be content, but at my next appointment, I admitted that they really bother me. He sighed and then said that if I need to have my teeth cosmetically perfect then I could go to a colleague of his who offers Zoom Whitening, which is supposed to be the strongest. I looked it up and some things say that it doesn’t help with white spots. What should I do?

Dear Nathan,
I am glad you wrote. Your dentist is having one of those moments where southern women would say, “Bless his heart.” There is nothing wrong with wanting your smile to be as beautiful as possible. The things you read online about teeth whitening and white spots are true. They don’t help. This is true even of Zoom Whitening, which does work faster.
The reason for that is that it will whiten your teeth evenly. This makes your white spots whiter along with the rest of your teeth, which actually serves to make them more obvious.
There are two possible solutions for white spots. The first is dental bonding which will only help if the white spots are small. If they are larger or take up a good portion of your teeth, then you would want to have porcelain veneers done. Both of these are advanced cosmetic procedures. If your dentist does not understand teeth whitening, then he certainly won’t be able to do these procedures.
I would look for a skilled cosmetic dentist who has experience with these procedures. Look at their smile gallery to see what type of results they get. If they don’t have a smile gallery, then they don’t do enough cosmetic dentistry to give you the type of results you want.
