Pain with My Teeth Whitening
Posted by writeradmin
I am doing at home whitening. It went fine for a couple of weeks, but now one of my teeth is giving me some pain. the pain is quite brief. It’s like a zing for a few seconds and then it calms down. But, the zing is painful enough that I have stopped whitening until I figure out what is going on. The pain seems to be coming from where I have a white filling. Have you heard of this happening before?

Dear Colleen,
Bear in mind that I have not examined you. That being said, the type of pain you are describing sounds to me like a sensitive part of the tooth is exposed. It is possible there is a part of your composite filling which is damaged. When the teeth whitening gets onto that part, it causes some pain.
If this is the case, it is a simple fix. You’ll need to have your composite filling repaired. You said that you were doing at home teeth whitening. You didn’t say whether it was over-the-counter whitening or you are doing at-home tray whitening through your dentist. Hopefully, it is through your dentist.
Either way, I would continue to keep your whitening on pause until you can get with your dentist. Have the tooth evaluated to verify that your filling is the problem. Then, once the problem is resolved, you’ll be able to resume your whitening procedure.
