Does My Smile Have to Be Perfect?

Posted by writeradmin

I went to my dentist about a smile makeover. I wanted to improve my smile a bit. She wants me to do two procedures. First, have teeth whitening done. Then, she wants to do porcelain veneers. The teeth whitening has to be done first. Then she wants to do porcelain veneers. Having to do teeth whitening first will make things take longer. Can’t the veneers make my teeth look white? Also, all the things she’s been showing me look perfect. My teeth are a bit quirky in a way that I like. What I’m hoping to do it just make them look a little better. I’m not sure I want them to look like perfect, cookie cutter teeth. What’s the best way to address this with my dentist?

Chloe

Dear Chloe,

Patient under the zoom whitening light.
Same Day Teeth Whitening

I’m glad you wrote. There are a couple of options for you here. If all you want it whiter teeth, then you could just do the teeth whitening. If you want it done fast, then you could have Zoom Whitening done. These can whiten your teeth in just one appointment.

If you’re looking for any type of change to your teeth, like their shape and size, then you would want the porcelain veneers. Yes, it is true that they could make your teeth white, most patients will just place the veneers on their upper teeth. It will be too expensive to do them on both arches. Whitening your teeth ahead of time means that both sets of teeth will match in color.

As for the perfect teeth, they don’t have to be shaped that way. I’m willing to bet your dentist would jump at the opportunity to create a smile that had some quirks. They do perfect smiles all the time. Getting creative would be a joy.

You asked my advice of for how to approach your dentist about this. AFter you decide whether you just want teeth whitening or whitening and veneers, I would simply tell them. It’s their job to create the smile that you want. If a dentist tries to talk you into something you do not want in a smile makeover, they are not the best dentist for you.
