Are Three Procedures Necessary for a Smile Makeover?

Posted by writeradmin

I had approached my dentist about a smile makeover. He suggested I get my teeth whitened, then do Invisalign, then porcelain veneers. Are all three of these necessary? I will admit that it is more than I was expecting. I have discolored teeth that are slightly crooked in a couple of places, but not much.

Dear Ray,

I am glad you wrote. While you will need two of these procedures for a smile makeover, which two will depend on your goals for your teeth. If all you want to do is whiten your teeth and straighten those crooked teeth, then I would recommend Invisalign with some teeth whitening.

In fact, you can save money by pairing these two together. That is because the Invisalign aligners can double as teeth whitening trays. All your dentist will need to do is provide you with the gel and you can wear them inside your clear aligners at a time most convenient for you. This allows you to straighten and whiten your teeth at the same time for a fraction of the cost.

If, however, there were other things that you want to fix about your teeth, then you should get porcelain veneers. They can change the shape, size, and color of your teeth. It’s what celebrities go to in order to get their gorgeous Hollywood smiles. You can get any smile you want. You will still want to get your teeth whitened. Veneers are expensive, so you will want to just do them on your upper teeth. By whitening your teeth, your lower arch can blend in with your teeth that get the veneers without having to pay a lot more.

One word of caution. While just about any dentist can do teeth whitening and Invisalign, you will want someone who has post doctoral training in cosmetic dentistry to do your smile makeover if you get veneers. These are an extremely advanced procedure and dental school is not enough if you want a good result.
