White Spots on Teeth

Posted by writeradmin

I have some white spot lesions on my teeth. My dentist has a two-fold plan and then a back up plan. His two-fold plan is to start with tooth mousse, then finish it up after a few months with teeth whitening. He said if that doesn’t work our next best option is to have dental crowns made.  I don’t want dental crowns so I’m just trying to figure out if I have a chance of the first plan working.

Dear Penny,

Teeth bleaching trays

I’ve got to be honest with you. I don’t feel like you are a with the best dentist. The tooth mousse is the only thing that he suggested which will be useful to you. The white spots on teeth are decalcification spots. The tooth mousse will help remineralize them. The company makes no claim about the aesthetics.

The teeth whitening is a really bad idea. In fact, it will make your white spots more obvious because it whitens all your teeth evenly. As for the dental crowns, no way you should let him do that. It would require seriously grinding down your healthy tooth structure.

If all you’re wanting to do is get rid of the white spots,  the tooth mousse is a good idea, you would need an expert cosmetic dentist to finish off the procedure by either having microabrasion done or dental bonding. Both of those would take a dentist with post-doctoral training in cosmetic dentistry. Your dentist doesn’t not qualify.

If, however, there are other things about your teeth you’d like to change, then you might look into porcelain veneers. These are what celebrities get for their Hollywood smiles. They can alter the shape, size, and color of your teeth all at once.
