Large White Spots on Teeth

Posted by writeradmin

I have had large white spots on my two front teeth for most of my life. I like how they look, especially in pictures, but the rest of my teeth don’t look so great. My dentist suggested that I whiten, but I’m pretty sure that if I whiten all of my teeth then the white spots will whiten with them which won’t really help. Is there a way to whiten everything except the two front teeth. If not, is there a way to get rid of the white spots without Lumineers? That is what my dentist suggested, but I read that they don’t get very good results.

Dear Amy,

Invisalign aligner

You have done some great research. I’m impressed. While I am sure that your dentist has the best of intentions, he does appear to be in over his head. In fact, you seem to know more than he does. You have three options for this situation:

First, it is possible to have your other teeth whitened and not the two front teeth, It will mean having a specialized teeth whitening tray made that will wrap around everywhere except the two front teeth. You’ll want to make sure you will have this done by someone who knows how to seal the tray around those teeth.

Second, if the spots are small, you can have dental bonding done. This can change the surface of the white spots to match the other teeth. This is done by some etching of the surface where the white spots are and then bonding composite material to that surface. These do have to be replaced every few years.

Third, if you want to do more than just cover those spots or they are larger than is practical with dental bonding, you can have porcelain veneers done. The Lumineers that your dentist suggested is a brand of porcelain veneers, but they are often marketed to inexperienced dentists and the results, as you’ve read, aren’t the best in most cases. There are other brands of porcelain veneers and, depending on the skills of the cosmetic dentist, can provide gorgeous results. These are what people go to for a complete smile makeover. They can change the shape, size, and color of your teeth.

Bear in mind that I suggest you have whichever of these options you choose done by an expert cosmetic dentist.
