How To Fix My Nephew’s Smile

Posted by writeradmin

My nephew is a great kid. He’s handsome and has great teeth, but there is a gap between two of them as well as one that is crooked. I know it embarrasses him. He’s graduating this year and I don’t want him heading into his next stage of life uncomfortable with his appearance. For graduation, I want to fix his smile. My dentist is suggesting Lumineers, but I’m having doubts about that and I can’t figure out why. Do you have some advice for me on this? He doesn’t know about it yet, and I want to have it all set up before I tell him.

Eliza

Dear Eliza,

Invisalign aligners

What a wonderful gift! Your nephew is going to be quite excited. I would not go with the Lumineers suggestion that your dentist is suggesting. While I am sure that your dentist is a fine family dentist, I don’t think he understands cosmetic dentistry. The Lumineers brand is highly marketed to inexperienced cosmetic dentists as being easy to place. The problem with that is it takes a significant amount of post-doctoral training in order for a dentist to develop the skill necessary to place them well.

I have doubts that any dentist that recommends Lumineers for a smile makeover has the skills necessary to do a beautiful job. In fact, there are countless cosmetic dentistry horror stories of patients who’ve spent a fortune on a smile makeover only for them to end up with a worse smile than the one they came in with. An additional issue with Lumineers is the expense. This is a massive overtreatment for what you described about your nephew’s smile.

In his case, I think Invisalign will be a much better option for your nephew. It will fix the gaps and crooked teeth, but at a fraction of the cost. If your nephew needs any teeth whitening, the good news is that the Invisalign aligners can double as teeth whitening trays. That means all your dentist will need to do is provide you with some professional strength teeth whitening gel. This will let him straighten and whiten your teeth at the same time.
