Getting My Teeth Really White

Posted by writeradmin

I’ve been doing Crest Whtestrips for years. Years. And I still don’t feel like my teeth are as white as I want. My dentist is suggesting either Zoom Whitening or Lumineers. I’m not sure about either of them. I’m thinking Zoom would make more sense but will they get them really white? If not, will Lumineers?

Dear Elliot,

Teeth bleaching trays

I’m very glad you wrote. While Crest Whitestrips do whiten teeth, they are very weak, as is every over the counter whitening solution. This is because the government regulates the strength for consumer safety. That is why you are not getting the results you were hoping for.

First, don’t do Lumineers. They are a massive overtreatment if all you are wanting to do is get your teeth whitened. Lumineers, like any other brand of porcelain veneers, are designed to be used to give a patient a complete smile makeover. Even if what you wanted was a smile makeover, Lumineers would not be the best choice.

They are highly marketed to inexperienced cosmetic dentists as being easy to place. But, placing them, and placing them well are two completely different things. There are countless cosmetic dentistry horror stories that attest to this. You need a highly skilled cosmetic dentist with post-doctoral training.

Zoom Whitening will whiten your teeth. In fact, it will get them very white. However, if you are trying to get them as white as possible, nothing will work better than using at home bleaching trays consistently. Your dentist should be able to provide those for you. I’m actually flummoxed as to why he didn’t suggest that to begin with.

I hope this helps. If your dentist is unwilling to provide plain old tray whitening but was willing to give you an overpriced treatment that you didn’t need, then I suggest you get a new dentist.
