Composite (White) Fillings

Modern filling materials are made to look just like natural teeth.  At Chesapeake Dental Arts 99% of the fillings we place are white composites. Composite fillings are white quartz-like material used to fill in cavities or replace worn out metal fillings.  They are attractive and environmentally non-toxic because they use no mercury.  Because they bond to teeth, unlike traditional metal fillings, they require less removal of healthy tooth.

Composite fillings require a completely dry area to bond and occasionally it is hard to isolate certain areas of the mouth.  If that is the case, the doctor will discuss other options with you.  Larger areas of decay may require more extensive care such as inlays, onlays, or crowns.
