Crowns

Crowns are necessary for badly decayed teeth, fractured teeth, or ones that are in danger of fracture.  Most teeth require a crown after root canal treatment.  A crown covers the tooth and restores it to its original size and shape.  The tooth is cleaned and built up, then a highly accurate impression is sent to the laboratory to create your permanent crown.  You will go home with a temporary crown at the initial appointment.  There are various materials that are used based on strength and esthetics - the right material will be picked for your needs.  Most crowns we create are tooth color. Occasionally, in patients with small mouths or who have a history of clenching and grinding, other materials such as gold may be more suitable.  Please let the doctor know ahead of time if you have any questions or concerns.
